Become root
su
<password>
mcedit /etc/inittab

Change the default runlevel to 4. Change the id entry in the inittab to the following:

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:4:initdefault:

To fix wheelmouse:

mcedit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Change mouse protocol to "IMPS/2"
