    Knoppix configurations

Hi , i have been a windows user for as long as i can remember, ive been wanting to try linux for a long time now but was reluctant because of the stories ive heard about errors and difficulty, as soon as i heard about knoppix i downloaded it and it was great.. Im currently using the knopppix live cd to learn more before i fully convert. It works fine but my configurations (wallpaper, themes ) will be gone and will reset to the default one as soon as i reboot and the files that i have saved to the desktop are gone too.. is there something wrong with my configurations or are my configurations and save files temporary because i do not have a linux native partition ? Btw my hdd partition is ntfs, any help would be greatly appreciated..

yes Knoppix is Temporary if you do not dedicate space to it, it is part of the saftety, keeping unintentional mistakes from being permanent...

you can buy a cheapish USB pen say 16M or larger (or external usb hdd...) , these pens can be had as promotional giveaways or be bought ffrom as cheap as 10€ (a 32Mb noname drive few weeks back in local store)
if you now have one of these you use the save config in the penguin menu and then create a permanent home there aswell, reboot and knoppix will likely find these two and use them.
hope this helped some, if not keep asking.

Knoppix make all its_job_ in_RAM, doesn't involving hard drive at all, this is why you lost your data at every reboot. If you want save your settings, you can't do that in a ntfs partition, you can damage/destroy data in it. You can save settings to floppy with "Kmenu-->knoppix-->config-->save knoppix configuration" and then select the proper cheatcode at boot (something like 'config=scan' or 'config=/dev/fd0', check cheatcode docs for more detalis). To be able retain saved files you can create a 'persistent home directory', assuming that 'home directory' is the default download place in linux. You can create it with 'Kmenu-->knoppix-->config-->create a persistent home directory'. A good choiche would be to create it on a USB device, this 'persistent hd' also must be mounted at boot with the proper cheatcode (home=scan or home=/dev/sda/knoppix.img).

there are two you need, home=scan AND config=scan.
    so like this
    Code:
    knoppix home=scan config=scan
hope it helps, if not keep asking.

    EDIT
you need to reboot computer once before it will use the storage.
You canot create the images and then save things there change configs without rebooting to make knoppix use that image as your home...
atleast not without knowing linux WELL, by well I mean knowing how to remount that image as your /home/user and reloading configs...
    /EDIT
