Sound not working

Alright. Knoppix is not recognizing my sound card. I've tried the "configure sound card configuration" and that's not working, and testing the sound in the control center gives me this error.

Sound server informational message:

error while initializing the sound driver:

device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I'm a linux newbie. Anyone know how to fix this?

what version of knoppix are you using specifically, that will make helping you significantly easier

sorry for any inconvienience, I used Alsaconf and simply selected my sound card. Easy as pie.
