WMV Windows Media support

After searching every thread on this topic I still can't figure out how to get WMV support on a Knoppix 4.0.2 Live CD with a persistant image. I got it to work once but didn't get the chance to remember (or write down) what I did and when the power went out, I lost it.

Please keep in mind I have Googled for weeks and have found many links but since I'm using this as Live, I'm unable to edit certain files.

Also, please be kind to the Knoppix n00b.
I'm trying.

apt-getinstall w32codec

I've even tried installing MPlayer but it needs to write ti write to the CD as far as I can tell.
