trouble installing debian packages and rpm files

i have noticed that when i download debian packages from debinan.org or rpm files and try to install them there is almost always a dependency problem of some sort. most times the dependency problem i get is that i need kdelibs4, so i downloaded it from the denian website but when i tried to install it, it said taht i needed kdelibs4...the thing i was trying to install....but if i just dont have the program check for dependencies then the program doesnt run well or at all...is it a problem with me or knoppix?

You need to use apt-get to install and automatically resolve dependency problems. See the sticky at the top of this forum.

It's not uncommon, though, to run into problems when doing a major upgrade of Knoppix (and updating KDE is major). My recommendation (well, my first recommendation would be to install Kanotix, but.......) is to point your apt-get sources to unstable, then run apt-get update, then update KDE.

As I say, do some searching and do read the sticky first.
