Help on installation

Hi I'm new to Linux
I'm using Knopix Live cd 3.3

i wanted to install some program , but there was some error related to "read write"

1) I want to know how to mount the root directory in read write mode
2) How to save any settings, eg network card config and installed prorams

Plz help me

Knoppix is a Live CD. Great for quickly running Linux on most machines and for a introduction to Linux. Not great for installing other software. The version that you are using is very old, and the limited support for installing stuff that is in newer versions is not there. But if your goal is to install software and retain settings between boots then I really recommend lookming at a real Linux hard disk install such as Debian Etch (or any of many other Linux versions intended for loading to hard disk and installing other software), not Knoppix.
