knoppix has an option :
"work arround for broken BIOS"
which is entered at bottom of help screen
Knoppix=OFF NOAPIC PCI=BIOS


has any body got any information /LINK on that ??
what does it do ??
does it mean it By passes BIOS post and run its own ???
or does it repair the BIOS setup program ??
it is certaily very intresting. option
