Knoppix-5.1.1 after HD-install..

After a successful hd-install, attempts to:
-- change network card config (via KDE->KNOPPIX->..)
-- adjust time and date (via clock icon)

results in a pop error:
Su returned error

is the install flakey (that is has to be redone or what)?
