alright heres my situation.

I know nothing about linux or knoppix.

My hard drive crashed with 3 days until my first final (im in college) and i was given a run around for 3 days before i got my hands on a knoppix 4.0 CD to boot my computer from.

now aside from the fact that i cant modify or save new files, i have two new problems, one of whichi can live with.

i cant seem to get my printer to work (in the wizard it lists 17 usb ports...i only have 4) and i cant just pop in the setup CD because my coputer is running from the bootable...anyway this is the problem i can live with.

I cannot get knoppix to recognize my sound card. the bult in soundcard configuration gives me a message about not running a kernel with modular sound enabled.

i also tried fiddling with the sound system tab in the control center. nada.

anyone want to help me out before i chuck this laptop out the window? its a dell latitude d620 btw. i have about 30gigs of information i need on here.
