it crashes when creating ramdisk

I am trying to boot from a CD. I am getting following message
"Creating directoriers and symlink for ramdisk..."
then fatals with stack and other informatios. Tried with expert, run level 2 and noscsai and and nodma. All mix and match.
This is old cryrix processor with 76MB memory. And this is knoppix3.1
