Error-KDE su

I get this message when i alt+f2 kdesu kwrite, or any othe kdesu command. "Error-KDE su" and "su returned with an error". I cannot adjust any setting. Cannot connect to internet. When I enter control center and try to adjust internet connection settinggs i get the Error-KDE su as well. Can someone please explain simply and comprehensivly to me how to get to be able to change settings or do things as root. I like Knoppix, the feel is great. It is the only distro out of 25 that I have tried that this has happened.
