How and where to create a new partition for remastering?

Hi,I am new to remastering.Currently my machine is Xubuntu and my partition table is as the following:

Disk /dev/sda: 61.4 GB, 61492838400 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7476 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 7383 59303916 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 7384 7476 747022+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 7384 7476 746991 82 Linux swap / Solaris

Where can I create a new partition for remastering or I must delete all of the original partitions?

Why create a partition? If you have plenty of space, you can use a directory in your current partition(s).
