Accessing knoppix as root user

I want to access my hard drive installation of knoppix as root user. I have tried various suggestions but keep getting "permission denied". How do I change from normal user to sudoer please.

have yiou changed to read/writew in the rightclick menu of the hdd icon?
if answer to that is yes, sudo will alow you to perform a command as super user in a console, there is also console in superuser mode in the knoppix menus (aswell as other superuser commands)
