xbindkeys
Microknoppix (v6): put in on a USB stick, with a persistent home directory. Runs fine on my Dell Latitude 620, but the keys for volume up/down/mute do not work.
It took me quite a while to figure out that it was not a problem with detecting the keyboard; instead, the keys were not mapped to actions. To be more precise: the actions (amixer commands) were present in /home/knoppix/.xbindkeysrc, but xbindkeys was not running. If I start it in a terminal window, everything works.
Tried to get xbindkeys running by creating a two-line script in /etc/init.d and creating a S.. link in /etc/rc5.d , the usual way. This does not seem to work, however; can't seem to find out why.
Any suggestions on how to get xbindkeys running whenever the X session is active?
Thanks
