Trouble booting 6.2.1 DVD on Toshiba A505-S6033

Hi there everyone.

I've used knoppix many times before, but a friend of mine needs me to backup his files on a windows 7 installation that has borked itself. He has a Toshiba A505-S6033, which has an Intel i7 processor in it...i haven't ever booted knoppix on this type of proc, but im wondering if there is a special boot command i need to use. When i let it boot normally, it says it is 'loading linux...' then 'loading minirt.gz' and then switches to a black backlit screen without anything else loading on the screen afterward. Im highly confused as to what my next move is for getting it to load.

Meant to mention that this is of the Satellite series. (Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033)

Also, after trying the boot option to check the dvd ('knoppix testdvd') it does the same thing- goes to a black screenand is unresponsive to the point that caps/num lock don't light up any lights on the laptop.

Is this a sign of a bad disc? This wasn't so rampant of a problem when i used to use knoppix more heavily years ago.

This could be the 'black screen of death' that can befall users of Knoppix 6.2.1 or Knoppix 6.3 when running with an Intel graphics chipset.

As you do not say what your graphics chipset is only you can confirm this.

I had this problem with my laptop and solved it by giving the following cheatcode when Knoppix is booted (when there is a small delay booting from the DVD you can type say:
knoppix i915.modeset=1

This will start knoppix with the cheatcode i915.modeset=1

This only works with intel graphic chipsets so if you have something else you have a different problem.
