printing via usb to parallel adaptor in knoppix 6.4

i have knoppix 6.4 installed on HD
i wanted to print to printer hp lazerjet 5mp using usb to parallel adapter
but i am unable to set usb port for the printer , and connecting the printer to lpt port using system-config-printer 1.0.0 - CUPS configuration tool does not work .
in system-config-printer 1.0.0 - CUPS configuration tool there is no option to connect printer to usb port - only parallel and serial .
i read some forums that mentioned /dev/usb/lp0 but i have no such folder in /dev
only file /dev/lp0 but it seems that does not work also .

what can i do ?

sorry for the mistake. the version of knoppix is 6.2 not 6.4
