Knoppix freezes at apmd interfacing with apm driver and bios

Hey folks,
My knoppix freezes barely into the boot! When it reaches this line:

apmd[56]: apmd 3.2.0 interfacing with apm driver 1.16 and APM BIOS 1.2

it freezes. I suspect this may have something to do with the fact that my ghetto, generic laptop only has 32 megs of RAM.

I was originally trying to use knoppix to see if its autoconfiguring utility would automatically assign values for my video card, which I'm having a REALLY hard time working out in FreeBSD to run X windows. Please help!

Well....I can see you like a challenge eh?

You can try this:

boot: knoppix noapm and see if it gets past that point or even:

boot: failsafe

But to be honest I doubt if you're going to get Knoppix to boot into Xwindows w/ only 32 M RAM-who knows there's a first time for everything right? gluck.
