Dire need of assistance!

Hi one and all!.....Until now I've been using Windows XP SP3. A few days ago both of my computers OS's crashed due to a bastard virus. Yesterday a friend gave me this cd containing Linux...said I can get online with it and may find some assist'. Compared to Windows it's like trying to navigate an alien spacecraft . Ideally I need someone to talk me through the finer points. I'm 47yo, M and residing in Austalia. I'm prepared to telephone anywhere in the world to get live assistance or communicate via [email protected] assist' preferred at my expense. Dude, it comes with web browser, and if your NIC or wireless is working, all you have to do is open (from the menu) preferences/network connections. Walla, set that up and you're online. Right then. Usually without needing drivers.
Other than that, I would suggest you getting a BartPE boot cd when you get winblows running.
