    Internet Issues

Knoppix boots fine and even detects my friends network card, but he cant connect to the internet. Cant even ping his router, tried networdcardconfig but of no avail. He has a efficient networks (siemens) speedstream 5660 hub which is connected to a linksys hub and all his computers connect thru that....what could be the problem.

Run netcardconfig and let us know what happens and or where it fails. If may be helpful to start it from a shell and look for error messages there.

Have you looked at the output of dmesg? Check and see if there is any helpful information there. Any error messages? Irq conflicts?

I ran netcardconfig and it said connection could not established to ISP. Not using DHCP. No error messages as such, the network card is detected and is on eth0. Ill run dmesg and let you know though.,

    Same problem

i'm sure i set everything corectly during the install as i've already memorized my network settings. I am fairly conversant in UNIX/Linux having been using this on and off for the past 8 years or so.

Correct IP/subnet/gateway, etc. as I used the same values as my windows box. My gw is an ipcop firewall and I have a 192.168.x.x network. ifconfig shows both eth0 and lo are properly set, as well as route -n shows proper network settings. I can ping my nic but not the gw or any other hosts on my network.

I ran netcardconfig as recommended here but they were still correct afaik.

My dmesg output though contains the following pertinent entries:

    Appreciate any help.

A few more searches and i found in one mailing list to turn off APIC modules. Now I forgot how to do this.

    How is this done?

Congrats! Those conflicts can be quite a PITA. I remember when I first tried Linux back in 1998 my sound card and network card would fight each other. Add to that a bug with dhcp that wouldn't allow Linux to get an IP from a winnt machine and you can imagine my frustration
