CUPs not loaded or loading or installed

Knoppix 3.7, installed to hard disk

When trying to setup a printer I get the following message:

"Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:

Connection to CUPs server failed. Check that CUPs server is correctly
installed and running. Error correction refused."

On another machine I have installed this version of Linux I
have not received this error.

Any help in solving this problem would be very gratefully received.

Try this,

Open a root shell
type cupsd

that should start the cups daemon and you should be able to setup printers etc.
