wget <url> how does this work??

hi all
i am working in knoppix in runlevel 2 and when i run the command "wget url" it displays message "network not found"

does any one know how to resolve this error?
Should i configure the network first>? if yes then please tell me how?

Try running netcardconfig. It can run as text or as a gui.
