lm_sensors: do i need a new kernel?

i would like to install the lm_sensors package
i've only once compiled a kernel for fun so i don't know much about it.
will it work if i only take the modules from a 2.4.20 kernel system (like a debian with the lm-sensors-2.4.20-3-686 pkg?) or do i have to get the sources and build kernel and modules from vanilla?

You can apt-get install lm_sensors and i2c

But you will need to recompile the kernel to load the i2c modules. There are some special considerations for the knoppix kernel, so you should read the how-to on custom kernels in the Docs section.

...you must patch de kernel to support lm_sensors. Then you must recompile the kernel.
Patches are at lm_sensor home page.

I dont know for sure, but debian with the lm-sensors-2.4.20-3-686 pkg seems to be already patched.
Future kernel 2.6 will include support for lm_sensors by default (partially)
