this can be helpful for someone I hope, I am new to linux, so perhaps this is obvious for you.
when i ran the knoppix from te cd everything worked perfectly, but when i installed it the configration was different and nothing worked...so i ran the SysV startup editor and ran again the jnoppix autoconfig, and all began to work again...
