Here's a post about configuring k3b. Also, you can do ls -al /dev/cdrom and ls -al /dev/dvd and find out what devices those symlinks are actually pointing to. Here's mine for examle:

Sice we're using SCSI emulation, the device "/dev/cdrom" is just a symbolic link to the actual device /dev/scd0. The first drive on the SCSI BUS.
