knx-hdinstall error

hi, i just tried to do a hd install with knoppix v3.2-2003-07-26, but after i setup the partitions as follows:
hda1 primary fat32 5GB
hda2 extended fat32 8GB
hda3 primary ext2 5GB
hda4 extended swap 500MB

i chose the option to setup hda4 as the swap partition, and then i chose to install the filesystem to hda3, but everytime the installer tries to copy files it gets errors: when i tried it in root console i got cloop read errors; when i tried it in kde terminal i got mkfs error...
im a noob...plz help!!!

Are you sure this is what fdisk reports? I thought all extended partitons
should be numbered above 4...

hda3 should be a5, and hda4 should be a6. At least thats my experiance with partioning.
