nForce2 Help please please please

Hello all I wonder if anyone out there can help me with a problem that I have with nForce2. I have updated my PC and now it has the nvidia nforce2 motherboard and I am having a problem to get my internet card working. I have installed the kernel- source and I have installed the drivers from nvidia from a tarball and the terminal tells me that the drivers are installed. I have compiled the new kernel and selected modules for Agpart & Nvidia-chipset & Realtek my network card. Then I have done the make dep & make modules etc. & make install & Lilo etc but when I start my PC up I can't get an internet connection at all, I have posted my dmesg & it shows that it knows what I am using so can someone help me to work out why I can't get my Eth0 card working I have been trying for 2 days to fix it, also I am now Bald as a coot, but I am stuck Help please in advance I thank you

everything works except my network card and I can't( even with insmod which says it will taint the kernel) get it working ...............................

Are you using the integrated network card on the nforce2 board? I am, and I was able to get it working by downloading the platform drivers, extracting, then doing "make" and "make install". You have to then add "nvnet" to /etc/modules. I was able to "insmod nvnet" immediately after make install. It did it, but gave me a warning. I then typed "netcardconfig" and set it to use dhcp. It works now at boot up and I haven't had any problems. Hope that helps.

I was having the same prob and m_yates kindly solved it to me (see below):

To install the nforce2 platform drivers, you need to download the *.tar.gz file, not the *.rpm file. Unpack the file by typing:

tar -xvzf <filename>.tar.gz

Then move to the newly created nforce directory:

cd nforce

Compile and install the drivers with (must be done as root):

make
make install

Now insert your network driver (as root):

insmod nvnet

Configure your network card (as root):

netcardconfig

You can select DHCP or other configuration. The network should now be up. To make sure the network driver is automatically loaded after reboot (as root):

cd /etc
kwrite modules

The text file that opens has a list of modules (drivers) that load during boot, add a line with "nvnet". Save the file and exit kwrite.

You are done!
