Annouce: Knet knoppix mod
ok, this knoppix mod does 2 things :
uses a customized kernel ( see changelog )
with 3 main features :
the low-latency patch ( makes things go faster )
the internetional patch ( adds crypto support )
the LPP patch ( nice boot up )
USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
This is a proof of concept and only useful to those working on knoppix.
To use this, you need to remaster knoppix. I do not provide instructions for this, just what you need to do..
NOTE:::::
WHEN I TALK ABOUT DELETING AND REPLACEING FILES IN /boot/ etc,
I AM TALKING ABOUT /your-knoppix-source-directory/boot/ etc.
DO NOT DELETE YOUR SYSTEM FILES!!!!!!!!
Also, backing up your KNOPPIX files is prolly a good idea.
1 Use the included boot.img for your boot image on the CD
2 in your knoppix source working dir do these mods :
- replace the knoppix-autoconfig and xsession files in /etc/init.d/
with the included files
- delete all files in /boot/ and replace with
the included vmlinuz and System.map-2.4.19-knet files,
then symlink /boot/System.map to /boot/System.map-2.4.19-knet
delete /lib/modules/2.4.19xx
replace with the included 2.4.19-knet directory
( so you have a /lib/modules/2.4.19-knet/ directory
remaster and thats it!
changelog/todo :
o added lowlatency patch
o added international crypto patch
o added lpp patch
o kernel rejig :
- removed support for scsi
- changed kernel to i586 ( from i386 )
- removed things not needed to "try" knoppix e.g. ia32 microcode
support.
- also removed very rare and obsoliete things from the config
- removed math emluation
- removed support for dual cpu
- removed support for raid
sorry if any of these effect you,
but i'm tight on space
Todo:
reedit linuxrc to echo errors..
find out why i can't echo > /proc/progress from within miniroot
change /etc/init.d/knoppix-* to include echoing proc errors etc etc
ONLY DOWNLOAD IF YOU CAN REMASTER!!
Download : bzip2 : http://knoppix.net/knet.tar.bz2 ( 8MB )
Note : when using this, the boot messages are shown on tty2
