kded: cannot connect to X server Sarge:0.0

i realize that i'm the only one here that uses Afterstep, but when trying to run kmail or konqueror from a non kde windowmanager it does not run. After some tinkering i came up with.

i can ping Sarge fine and all other apps run fine just not kmail or konqueror.
i tried switching to balsa and thunderbird but just down't like the feel.

any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't say that you're the only one who uses Afterstep!

I've always liked the look and feel. I am not an expert, by any means, but I can assure you that Konqueror does run with Afterstep... I'm using both right now.

I know that does little to solve your problem, but it shows that it is possible. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable users will offer something a little more constructive.

i know they both run(normally) in Afterstep, been using them for years. this has been a recent problem.

btw, i was guessing the problem is related to either kdm or hostname. i'd tried swapping to xdm and gdm neither helped. last night i updated to a newer package(Sarge) of hostname and it seems to be fixed. i'll cross my fingers.
