Why not extend Knoppix with your new installer? Klause and freinds have done most of the hard stuff already. I am working on a similar project that we will share "GNU" as soon as it gets close.

I would like to make my own Knoppix derived distro but with a 'real' installer, which installs the system upon booting up from the CD. The installer itself would initially load a special installer kernel which would then run an installer program (initially text based, later version framebuffer graphics based) written in C++.
Could anyone give me some pointers on how to do this? Or is this too far removed from the 'normal' remastering process to be doable?
