tip: TTFs display after installing via kfontinst
Using kfontinst, though it usually crashes just as you finish, still does a great job of writing the config files and afms. However, in my case, they never displayed in anything that didn't use Xft. Having enough experience to realize this was not normal, it took a long struggle to discover that -
- my X server was reading from /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 instead of the usual XF86Config. I was wondering why my tweaks made no difference.
Be sure you list the TTFs folder in the Path section of XF86Config-4, if you find that they don't display properly.
