Compile Programm so it runs on all Processor Architektures.

I deinstaleld some Software i dont need.

Now i would like to add some Programms to "my" Knoppix Version.
Like MPLAYER, Lame etc.

I almoste started compiling it when i suddenly remembered something:

This is a Duron 900Mhz test machine. If i compile it here, then make my Live Cd, put it in an p4 2,4GHz will it work? Or will it work but not be optimized?

How can i do it the BEST way?

It should not matter unless you pass specific options when compiling to make the program for your intended architecture it should default to being compiled to a standard one which IIRC should be a 386 processor or better, you should check the docs that are with the programs just to be sure. But just to save some time and have properly packaged packages you may as well install the mplayer-386 to have compatibility with all arch's if that is what you want, the same with the lame and any others you want to install.
