Cannot mount windows partitions

Just run Knoppix for the first time, and I'm new to Linux. I cannot mount my windows drives. I get an error when mounting. Here's the details:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc1,
       or too many mounted file systems
       (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
       ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)

OK I am back. Just downloaded Knoppix 3.4 and have same problems mounting as before. Now have a new PC except for the hard drive.

Just tried Knoppix 3.4 with the 2.6 kernel, and the all my hard disk partitions appear on the desktop, and can be read without issue.

Any reason why 2.6 kernel would work, and 2.4 not?

/dev/hda6 /mnt/hda6 vfat noauto,users,exec 0 0

Perhaps your 2.4 kernel was build without ntfs-support, and the other problems depended on the wrong entries in /etc/fstab?
