Changing refresh rate?

i'm using the live cd, and when it boots up, the refresh rate is too high for my monitor, results in a blurry view that i cannot read. how can i change the refresh rate? thanks for your help.

1. you can change it when you boot. (when it says boot: press f2 and you will see the command)
2. you can change it in knoppix.
