Strange Problem

Hello!I am a newbie to Linux. I have installed Knoppix on my hdd and since then i have a strange problem that didn't appear when i was booting knoppix form cd (when everything was working fine).Now , when i enter in Knoppix my internet connection won't work and i have to manually activate DHCP to make it work; but after i do that , when i want to acces my harddrives it moves soooooooo sloooooooooow.If i don't activate DHCP it works fine; it opens my hdd instantly. I have searched the whole forum and i found nothing. Please help.

Any ideas...pls help. it is frustrating to wait 5 minutes to view the content of my hdd. Btw i didn't mention that if i try to access any partition from an xterm terminal it works fine.

I will guess that you didn't use this cheat code on your hard drive install.

knoppix dma

This allows for hardware acceleration on IDE devices such as cdrom and hard drives.
