it's possible to install this software on knoppix 3.3 ?

If you want to add mplayer to a hard disk installed knoppix, you can use the packages from "deb http://marillat.free.fr/ stable main" using apt-get/dselect/aptitude etc. There are packages for i386, i686, k6, k7 so do a "apt-cache search mplayer" to pick which packages to install. Of course you could either install from source

You want the line to have testing or unstable in it otherwise apt will try to downgrade the install, the lines:

This would be added into in the file /etc/apt/sources.list if it is not already there if it is there you should just be able to install.

at kano.mipooh.net there is a install script for mplayer.

1st step would be the codecs-script
2nd the mplayer script
3rd the kmplayer script

why not make things easy

I like this approach, except for the fact that mplayer will not be updated when apt-get upgrade. It is easy though.

Hi All,

I have even used the script at
kano.mipooh.net to install and
run mplayer from the live
CD. I found that gmplayer
worked well and did not
figure out the advantage of
kmplayer. Just enter
gmplayer form a shell to
bring it up.

Athough my system is on the weak
side -- it played 1/2 screen
DVD very well.

Hi,

I tried with these scripts of kanotix but when installing kmplayer, I get:

checking for libjpeg... -ljpeg
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.1 (20021021)) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!
make: *** [config.status] Error 1

How can I install Qt? I tried an apt-get install but I got

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mplayer-386: Depends: libxv1 but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution)

Have you tried downloading 1.0-pre3 and create a debian package from it?
It worked without any hassle for me. In fact, it's the usual way now for me of adding software non existant in Debian to my constantly-remastered Knoppix.
