Nicotine and/or PyGTK need help installing

okay so i'm having trouble installing nicotine(a file sharing program that connects to the soulseek network) here's what happens when i install. It won't let me install PyGTK either, but i have the newest version of Python.

    ./nicotine

Nicotine supports "psyco", an inline optimizer for python
code, you can get it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/psyco/
Can not find required PyGTK. The current search path is
    ['/home/knoppix/programs/nicotine-1.0.7', '/usr/lib/python23.zip', '/usr/lib/python2.3', '/usr/lib/python2.3/plat-linux2', '/usr/lib/python2.3/lib-tk', '/usr/lib/python2.3/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python2.3/site-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/PIL']
    knoppix@superubercool:~/programs/nicotine-1.0.7$

here is the output from PyGTK when i try to ./configure

If you have internet access then apt-get install nicotine it is in the Debian archives.

    Code:
    >$ apt-cache policy nicotine
    nicotine:
      Installed: 1.0.7-1
      Candidate: 1.0.7-1
      Version Table:
     *** 1.0.7-1 0
            990 http://ftp2.de.debian.org testing/main Packages
            600 http://ftp2.de.debian.org unstable/main Packages
            100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
