locked up program

Right clicking on a locked up program, in the system menu, and selecting close doesn't close it.

I have ps -A | grep <prog name> as root w/no avail.

how do i close the program?

Program is XMMS.

Use kill process_number or kill -9 process_number if it is really stuck in the console once you find the number with your command above, there is also an Xkill in the menus somewhere that you can use.

but the problem is that ps -A reviels no such program...XMMS isn't listed...???

Xkill should still work and try ps xa | grep xmms.
