svchost crashes !?!? HELP!

I get this problem when using internet explorer....

occasionally a window appears saying "svchost.exe has encountered an error.. an error log is being created..."

then everything is generally unstable... IE won't open new windows.. taskbar items don't respond.. things like that..

what the hell is going on !?!??!?!

Please help if you can.
