Has Anyone acutly got the tutoreal on this site to work

i have folowed the instructuns to the letter Five Times
each time it gives me the same error. i am just wondering if i am just missing somthing or if there is actuly somthing wrong with the tutoreal. the error comes when i apt-get update or apt-get remove it always tells me stuff like
when i apt-get update it dous a bunch of stuff and the at the end says
W: Not using locking for read only lock fille /var/lib/apt/lixts/lock
W:mot using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/loc
E:unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened

when i apt-get remove
W: not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
E:Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: the package lixts or status file could not be parded or opened.

if it would help you to help me i will post every line of code that i type in to get to this point.

if there are better tutoreals out there as how to remaster knoppix please tell me. i have about 3 good ideas that i want to make for knoppix. thanks

first off
hdb1 is a 4.6 gige ext2(i also tryed ext3)
hdb2is a 2.2 gige ext2 (i also tryed ext3)

i oped up the root shell(k>knoppix>root shell
when the root shell is opened it said

root@ttyp0[knoppix]#

this is exacty what the i typed
mount -rw /dev/hdb1 /mnt/hdb1
mkdir /mnt/hdb1/knx
cat /proc/meminfo
(i have 1 gige ram plus 2 gige swap,should be enough)
mkdir /mnt/hdb1/knx/master
mkdir /mnt/hdb1/knx/source
mkdir /mnt/hdb1/knx/source/KNOPPIX
mkdir /mnt/hdb1/knx/master/KNOPPIX
cp /cdrom/index.html /mnt hdb1/knx/master/
cp -Rp /KNOPPIX/* /mnt/hdb1/source/KNOPPIX
its curintly copying when its done ill do the rest of the steps is this so far corect ? thanks alot for taking the time to look at this.

chroot /mnt/hdb1/knx/source/KNOPPIX
mount -t proc /proc proc
ping google.com (it gave me the unknown host so i shut dowm shell and restarted it)
ping google.com (this time there was an internet conection)
apt-get update
(it dous a bunch of stuff and tells me the same error the error reads as follos

apt-get remove xchat
GAVE ME THE SAME ERROR AS THE LAST 5-6 TIMES WANT TO THROUGH COMPUTER OUT THE WINDOW(You all probubly know what that feels like )

can any one help i have been working on trying to cosumize knoppix for five days and im still at the same point that i was at five days ago and im to stuborn to give up

i have an idea what the problum is
when i mount proc i have to eather control-d or exit out of shell to get internet,when i exit out of shell it un chroots me. when i chroot it unmount proc(or atleas make the internet conection disapier

any ideas around this

to test to see if you have an internet connection at all while in the chroot enviroment

ping 216.239.59.99

thats the IP address for www.google.com

if that works then you have not added ur DNS to teh /etc/resolv.conf
