Have you tried the latest official one ? (3.3 2004-02-16 at the moment)
If that doesn't work and it locks up right after loading the kernel you might need this:

Yes, I tried it. But it doesn't loads even the kernel.
In the screen appears:

boot: knoppix <-- i tried with nopcmcia ...
loading vmlinuz................
loading miniroot.gz..................

black screen! cdrom and hd stopped O_o

Ok, at least some Dell users claim that they get past that if they use the nosmp cheat code.
That doesn't work for me but try it anyway, if it doesn't help I think you need a remaster with a kernel without smp support. The thread I pointed to in my previous post contains a link to a remaster that works for me (on a Clevo 410E)
