How to create a boot.img file?

I´m a newbie and nedd create a boot.img with at least 1.8MB.
I create with mkisofs but in remaster he said boot.img must be have 1.44Mb or 2.88Mb, how i create a new boot.img with 2.88Mb?

Take a look at /usr/sbin/knoppix-terminalserver
Search for the "mketherboot" routine. That shows how to create a 2.88M boot image.
