Modem not working--how to configure

Hi there,
Newby for real! Just wondering if you or anyone could give me the magic words for getting my modem working with the knoppix 3.3 non installed CD--I have a Fujitsu c 6631. Toshiba modem, does not connect to internet though I do have Win xp currently connecting. I need to make changes?? This is my first Linux distro but am able to follow some of the lingo after doing some reading. Thanx

Is this a winmodem? (cripplemodem)

If you aren't sure: if it is an external modem: it's not a winmodem.
If it's a laptop, and no pcmcia-card-modem: it's probably a winmodem.

If it might be a winmodem, google for linux-modems - there is a page, collecting information for every modem and linking to drivers (if they exist).
