evolution and fat32 problem

Hi,

I moved my evolution/local folder via symbolic link on my data partition (fat32). I have full read/write access to that partition.
When I start evolution, I see my folder structure and all emails in the currently selected folder.
However, the email I select does not show up in the preveiw pane. The status bar reads "Retrieving message 6376"

After a while I get an error message: Error while "retrieving message 6376": Timed out trying to get lock file on //home/user/evolution/local/Inbox/mbox. Try again later.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

fat32 does not allow permissions to be set. as konsequence it fails when it tries locking out of others from that same file, so it refuses.
might be some setting that makes this possible anyway but, i do not use ximian sorry
my tip is to move the folder to a small minix, ext2, ext3, reiserfs, xfs... partition. that might work. even a -o loop mounted file formated ext3 should work.
