    Anybody remastering?

Is anybody planning on remastering 3.4, taking out the 2.4 kernel and putting in KOffice and TeX?

I know, it's the exact reverse of Knopper's decisions, but I like KOffice and TeX, and don't see much benefit in having two kernels.

May be premature. Much as I want to go straight to 2.6 and leave 2.4 behind, kernel 2.6 has been giving me and a number of other users problems, and I'm not willing to rely upon it. Meanwhile, v.3.4 with the 2.4 kernel is the closest thing to flawless that I've ever seen. It's easy for me to mess about with 2.6, because I'm just playing now. But I wouldn't even THINK of doing a HD install of Knoppix 3.4 with the 2.6 kernel, even just for fun, until it works a little better, and there is NO WAY that I would be willing to rely upon it for anything important yet. Many people rely on these distributions for very important things in their lives, and while I would trust 3.4/2.4 with the very most important things in my life, I'd sooner rely on WinMe than Knoppix 3.4/2.6. Hopefully, the bugs will be resolved soon, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a new release before the end of May. Once 2.6 proves to work as reliably as 2.4, then I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2.4 kernel come out. Of course that doesn't mean that your apps will be replaced, necessarily - I'm betting that the freed space will be either reserved for expansion (to delay the necessity of DVD distribution) or allocated to a non-redundant app. But, hey, whaddoIknow??

For those wondering about md5 sums. There were 2 released versions. One was released prematurely and has knoppix 3.3 in the boot loader.

apart from that they are the same. The 2 valid md5sums are :
    8e9cd4d310ad8381d1ec3326c6caae2b <-- newest
    and
49a62cdac7a3afcee0d2d47ea17daa6f <-- older with wrong version number

I think the main torrent contains to the "old" ISO. Any chance that it would be updated?

Well, I've been trying to seed a torrent of the newer iso, but I can't seem to get the built-in tracker in Azureus (my BT client) working properly. If anyone has a tracker they'd be willing to let me post the torrent to I'll give that a try.

I only have a DSL connection however, and if it hogs too much bandwidth I'll need to kill it after a few hours, so please keep your BT clients open to help reseed!

EDIT: Ok, I THINK I have this setup right if anyone wants to give it a shot...

I've got the tracker passworded. Username is 'knoppix', password is 'netforum' (no quotes).

btw this is actually a folder with the iso, md5sum, cheatcodes etc...

Hope it works. This is my first attempt at hosting a torrent...

    Re: Upgrading

ID10T error: insufficient knowledge for upgrade

I just downloaded and did a hdinstall about a week ago of 3.3.
Now, wanting to be current, I want to "upgrade" to 3.4. Do I need to just blowaway existing 3.3 on the hard disk and do a fresh install or is there an upgrade script of some kind. I would love to just upgrade/repair/replace/etc whatever the changes are, but didn't know if this was possible.

    Thanks for helping the idiot

you won't see the KDE Panel (the button bar) again...

should I consider this another bug ?
Well as it works under SuSE (confirmed myself) well yes we should consider it a bug ...

But I dunno how they do it ...

Perhaps I will have some contact to them soon, so I caould then ask ...

PS: Please add it to the Docs/Bugs/3.4

The HD install includes both 2.4 and 2.6 and defaults to 2.4.

I installed it today on a new Dell laptop and changed the default to 2.6 to get more hardware recognised: there are good reasons for using 2.6!

Didn't work for me. I now have 700MB of 0x00's. I'd be willing to try again.
