Something seems to be pretty spooky here. I spent 2 days trying to use make Knoppix Terminal Server available on our system and eventually found out that:
a) NFS does not seem to be supported (mount: unknown filesystem type'nfs'" b) the CIFS configuration needs to connect as root with password set to "" - not exactly my favorite on our main file server
I changed CIFS credentials to a dummy user and now it seems to work.
Would be nice to enter this information into the HowTo.
