    Knoppix won't boot

Downloaded 6.2.1 for CD. Set Bios to boot from CD. Get message that the cd is not bootable. Any reason why this would be the case? Trying to repair a Windows XP OS after failure to boot following update from SP2 to SP3. Getting missing or corrupt NTFS.sys even though it was replaced by a file on the recovery cd.
    Thanks.

The most likely cause (>95%) is that the CD was not correctly burned; Windows programs, especially, are unable to do a proper job of this. Try burning at the slowest available speed for the best results. Should that still not work, you can start the burning program, then use ctrl-alt-delete to start the Task Manager and click Processes, "explorer.exe", then "End process". The result looks a bit funny, but it reportedly makes a huge difference in how well CDs (or DVDs) are burned with most of the burners, e.g. almost all the disks are good.

    Cheers!

Yea, it wasn't burned properly, "as an image". You likely just have a back-up copy of the ISO on a CD or DVD. Click on the "Documentation" link near the top of this page and read the "Downloading FAQ". Also important along with using the right burning software and burning the ISO "as an image" is to confirm the md5 checksum and to do the burn at low speed.

Verifying of md5 checksum and burning a CD at slow speed are important.
