No, not really, it would help if you posted what video card your 8100 had though. That is if you want help...
When i boot knoppix it boots fine until it starts remounting drives it begins to try to find xserver (screen starts blinkin) then it says cannot find suitable xserver configuration....does ne1 know why this is...???

sorry...if it were my desktop i would have posted specs....laptop has p3 866 cpu..256 mb RAM....and an nvidia GeForce2 Go (Dell Mobile)...
When it fist starts up press F2, there are two options for alternate video, the frame buffer mode and vesa mode. Do any of those work?Originally Posted by adam
Neither of those seem to work...
The issue is nvidea drivers. There are no open source ones, however nvidea does make free proprietary binaries that will work. Does Knoppix include these binaries or has it been rejected because the drivers are not open source?
Another issue you may run into is the internal modem within your 8100. It is a winmodem, and most likely one that has drivers available. Unfortunately those drivers do contain some proprietary binaries from Lucent and they may not be part of Knoppix either.
I personally feel that Knoppix should include these free, yet proprietary drivers since they do make Knoppix compatible with a whole lot more common hardware.
I was using knoppix just fine the other day on a toshiba with a geforce 4 go card. I got it using the normal driver and framebuffer mode at 1400x1050
