You don't need a boot.img when using isolinux. Place all the files in boot.img into /isolinux or /boot/isolinux and add the file isolinux.bin from syslinux. This will enable you to have a "boot disc" larger than 1.44 or 2.88 MiB.

    Code:
       mkisofs -o output.iso \
           -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat \
           -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table \
           root-of-iso-tree

    Hi,

These name problems seem to be problems with the ISO9660 standard

You might consider using the flag '-l' or '-iso-level2' for mkisofs (I ran into problems with the 2nd one) so it does not care about the ISO9660; this way, the filenames are only limited to 31 characters, as far as I can remember. (Please tell me, if I'm wrong)
