No suitable x-server found for your card
Hello There:
New to Linux. I downloaded from 2 different sources Knoppix V5.1 iso and
created a cd.
Every time I try to boot the computers with the cd, Knoppix starts with the
initial screen but
then I get something like:
Probing / loading AGP modules...
Starting the x window system...
Retrying with server xorg ((vesa)
Retrying with server xorg ((fbdev)
unloading unnnedded AGP module
ERROR: No suitable x-server found for your card.
And it won't continue.
I tried in another computer and a laptop with the same result.
I have no clue what to do after that, any help in the subject?
Thank you in advance.

- 1. Don't download over and over again, check the md5 checksum to know if the download was good or not. If it was good another download of the same files isn't going to improve things. See the downloading faq for details on the md5 test.
2. Are you talking about 5.1.1? Or 5.1.0? 5.1.1 is still on BitTorrent and the mirrors, 5.1.0 generally isn't although you might find a copy somewhere. Not that it really matters, but you did bring up the version number issue.
3. If you used BitTorrent then you got a file of cheat codes, otherwise you should be able to download it from the mirrors separately. Cheat codes give you ways to work around the hardware configurations. There is also a section in the wiki on cheat codes, found by following the documentation link near the top of this page. I suggest trying the command at the boot prompt knoppix xmodule=vesa (which curiously doesn't seem to be listed in the 5.3.1 cheat codes document).
D. You might get better help if you told people what hardware that you were using. In particular since you know that the error is "No suitable x-server found for your card", you might want to mention what video card you have. No harm in giving other information too, but often that type of info is needed to give a precise answer.
