View Full Version : Writing a 'real' installer

I would like to make my own Knoppix derived distro but with a 'real' installer, which installs the system upon booting up from the CD. The installer itself would initially load a special installer kernel which would then run an installer program (initially text based, later version framebuffer graphics based) written in C++.

Could anyone give me some pointers on how to do this? Or is this too far removed from the 'normal' remastering process to be doable?

Why not extend Knoppix with your new installer? Klause and freinds have done most of the hard stuff already. I am working on a similar project that we will share "GNU" as soon as it gets close.

All the best, Dan
